Perth Zoo was the very first botanical garden in WA.
- Two horse manure loads came daily from East Perth to provide fertilizer. CY O’Connor sank the Zoo’s first bore.
- Royal Norfolk island pines were planted by the Duke and Duchess of Cornwell.
- Holm Oak , first tree to be planted in the zoo by first director E LeSouef.
- Chilean wine palm, only one in WA.
- The Duke and Dutch of Cornwall and York planted the small and big araucaria trees.
- Perth Zoo has 40 different species of palms, some of which are relics from the very first planting.
