Nigel gives us a lesson on what a difference premium and good quality potting mix can make to your garden and plants.
- A common mistake is getting that gem of a plant from your local nursery but getting a cheap potting mix that lets you and your plant down.
- Cheaper potting mix tends to be made up on sand, non-composted bark, sawdust or green waste, meaning your potting mix will suck the nutrients out of your plant roots.
- Osmocote Premium Potting Mix however is formulated with a wetting agent to help water soak deep into the root zone. It uses a special growth stimulant for strong and healthy roots.
- When filling the pot, make sure to let the soil sit light and fluffy not too tight and compact.
- A great backup for pots and planters is the Osmocote Controlled Release Fertiliser, as the potting mix tends to last about 10-12 weeks.
- The way this works is through osmosis, when the weather warms up the prills expands releasing more of the nutrients to the roots.
