Neville loves fish and shows us the best way to minimise their stress when transferring pons.
- A leading cause of death of fish is stress. But there are ways in which you can have happy and healthy fish when you are transporting them.
- Avoid skin to skin contact with fish and get them quickly into the bag, tub or pond.
- If possible, get compressed air into the bag and seal it firmly. And for long distances, a battery powered aerator is a necessity.
- Go directly home without stop-offs. Long periods of time without a proper home can cause more stress and discomfort for your fish.
- Let the bag float in the water for at least 5 minutes before transferring the fish into its new home.
- Wait 1-2 days before feeding your fish. And feed sparingly moving forward, making sure to check that food has been finished before adding more.
- Fish love to hide and some good shade can do the trick.
