Grow Your Own for Free

Times are getting tough and plant scan be expensive. Trevor teaches us how to grow our own plants!

  • There are a few ways to grow your own, but these two techniques are the easiest: division and cutting.
  • Gently prune non-flowering stems, and if you look closely, you will see each node, that is where the leaves emerge from, has a growth bud. That bud can burst into a new growth stem, and roots will emerge around it as well. This simple act begins a whole new plant. Simply cut and pop it in the ground in a shaded, moist position, or grow it in orchid mix or in a pot.
  • When it comes to division, there’s no limit when it comes to clumping plants. You simply dig under and split plants apart, and replant!
  • It is always best to pop a plant like this into a new pot, but it is not necessary. If the conditions are right for the parent to thrive, then in spring it's easy enough to plant alongside and increase the number of plants in a particular garden bed.
  • Water is key, so watching soil moisture levels and maintaining them at a consistent level is important. Water after planting and water every second day until summer sets in, and the root system is established, and the plants will do their own thing.
