As we emerge from winter, Darren shares his tips on what to do in the garden now to keep it thriving during the warmer weather.
- Test & service your irrigation system. Make sure the controller is in good working condition, that all the stations are working & that there are no breaks, leaks, or blocked emitters
- Plants with a shallow system of feeder roots will benefit from mulching before the summer heat arrives. Mulch should be applied thickly between plants but thinned out close to the trunks.
- Applying controlled-release fertilizer & mature compost in spring will provide all the nutrients the plant requires to fuel this growth, especially for plants that love the warmer months! The compost will also feed the soil microbes, which in turn will support plant health!
- A decent quality wetting agent can make an enormous difference, allowing irrigation and summer rainfall to soak into the soil where it can be easily accessed by your thirsty plants. Apply in spring, summer & autumn.
- Repotting, or even just refreshing now, will give plants the best chance to thrive through the summer months. Always use premium potting mix, controlled-release fertilizer & water in well after repotting.
