Rejuvenate Lawn

A common problem that you might have at home is a patchy lawn. This is caused by a number of things such as temperatures dropping, shady areas, or the wrong type of lawn.

Palmetto Soft Leaf Buffalo (Stenotraphrum secundatum ‘SS100’) is a new type of buffalo that has excellent winter colour and great tolerance to shade.

A hand full of runners is enough to completely rejuvenate a medium sized patch of lawn. The first step is to cultivate the soil.

Use a swan necked hoe, it hooks into the ground beautifully.

Throw in a spot of organic fertilizer will give the new grass something to grow on. Use Dynamic Lifter, it may stink, but it works beautifully, it contains nitrogen for the grown and phosphate to stimulate root and shoot development. The same hoe makes a great mixer.

The new runners can be dug in or pushed into the soil surface by the blade of your spade. Once watered try and not walk on the area for at least a few weeks.

The last step is to water in the grass. Even though it is cool the runners will take off quite rapidly. As long as you feed them every 3 or four weeks with the Dynamic Lifter, it should completely cover the area by Christmas.

The other advantage of Palmetto is that it is a softer type of Buffalo, which means that the kids can play on it and not end up with skin rashes or irritations.
