Garden Centre of the Week - Botanix Lifestyle Garden Centre
Presenter: Phil Dudman
Episode: 20 (8 September 2007)
Botanix Lifestyle Garden Centre in Brisbane are taking a fresh approach to spring, celebrating the season through art. There are some fascinating things going on with some great ideas for the home and garden.
It all starts in the Wellington Point Art Gallery; one of South East Queensland’s largest commercial galleries, with stunning collection of contemporary paintings and sculptures from local and interstate artists.
One of the special things about this gallery is that on weekends; you can come and watch one of the contributing artists working on their next masterpiece or even creating one of the many beautiful murals that decorate the complex. It is also a great opportunity to talk to the artists about commissioning your own special piece.
Mick Zalesky is the gallery director and the artist responsible for making some amazing sculptures. When you come into see Mick be sure to bring in a photo of your garden or interior because he can digitally place any of the art pieces here into the scene to show you how it will look, which takes out all the guesswork.
The team is getting creative with their plants out in the Botanix Nursery as well and they are not letting water restrictions get in the way of having a good time. In fact, they are having an absolute ball with drought hardy succulents and there is a wide pallet of colours and shapes to play with.
Each plant is a sculpture in itself, but the Botanix team believe you should not stop. It is possible to get a little whimsical and recreate something in the garden that was once used for something else.
At Botanix they have some great ideas. For example a two tiered fountain, once overflowing with water will soon be overflowing with a cascade of succulents that need little water.
Or for something a little simpler; a glazed pot full of echeveria makes a trouble free centrepiece.
If you have got an old strawberry pot not being used try something a little different and fill it with a variety of succulents to make it a living work of art.
You are only limited by your imagination and the innovative team of horticulturists at Botanix are full of ideas to share.
It is all about being inspired and celebrating the world of art this spring!
The wonderful art gallery, nursery and café are open everyday so take a look at Botanix on Nelson Rd Wellington Point and check their website to see the latest on what is going on.
