Atlas Paving
Presenter: Sue McDougall
Episode: 20 (8 September 2007)
A quality landscape design incorporates a range of elements beyond just placing a few plants in the ground. The proper use of hard landscaping features such as decking and paving can increase the uses and pleasure of your garden dramatically. Natural products such as stone have increased in popularity but the costs of such products can be considerable and beyond the reach of many.
Atlas paving have just released a natural looking paver which not only provides the ‘wow’ factor of natural stone but will cost you only around one third of the price. It has been created by taking the best Spanish travertine and using it as a template for the mould. Travertine has been used for centuries in paving patios and pathways. It is sometimes referred to as travertine limestone and travertine marble, although it is neither limestone nor marble. The stone is characterized by pitted holes and troughs in its surface.
The travertine pavers are available in 2 different colours beach and charcoal, and 2 different sizes 525mm x 350mm and 175mm x 350mm. The sizes allow for less cutting and make it easy to lay different rectangular patterns. When laying pavers it is important to get the spacing correct but the travertine pavers have built in spacing to make your job even easier.
The Atlas travertine pavers are perfect for pool owners, the pavers can be matched with travertine bullnose to create the perfect finish around your pool. The bullnose pavers create a natural and elegant look. The use of reconstituted limestone in the paver ensures the paver is cool to walk on, making it perfect for areas exposed to Australia’s harsh summers. The addition of aggregate in the mix ensures it is a strong paver.
With fantastic hard landscaped areas such as those created by the Atlas travertine range it is important to protect the surface. The use of self watering pots, such as the Yates Tuscan range, is a perfect solution. Self watering pots work on capillary action, water is stored in the reservoir and the water is taken up by the plant through the potting mix when the plant needs it. Self watering pots come in a range of sizes making them perfect for any number of plants. The dwarf apple tree ‘Pinkabelle’ is ideal for self watering pots, the tree will look gorgeous and the pot will ensure your paving remains the same.
