Daisy Pool Covers

Episode: # Waterwise Special 24th November 2007
Presenter: Neville Passmore

Swimming is one of the best means of getting fit at home and Neville’s 19 metre lap pool is getting a daily workout. The scary fact a 50,000 litre pool can lose massive quantities of water to evaporation across the year in Perth’s climate. How much? 75,000 litres, in other words, one and half times the current volume.

Neville wants to make his home as sustainable as possible. To reduce this waste of water he has installed a pool cover that can cut evaporation by 97%. This is going to save Neville from topping up an average 300 litres per day in the swimming season.

Daisy Pool Covers
have been awarded the Smart Approved Watermark and in common with all outdoor water products it has been judged by an independent expert panel to ensure that it really does the job.

Daisy Pool Covers not only virtually eliminate evaporation but can reduce pool cleaning chemical use by as much as 50% and it also retains heat by up to 8 degrees. Light can pass through the transparent cover and that acts exactly like a green house because it traps the heat in the water. This will allow you to enjoy the swimming season for a couple of extra months at either end.

This is great news in southern Australia but up north it would result in super hot water that’s actually unpleasant to swim in. For this region an opaque Non-heating SolarScreen is available which doesn’t super heat the water.

Daisy Pool Covers have an UltraDome bubble profile which give it unprecedented strength and long life and is able to withstand physical wearing, ultra violet light as well as chemical attack. While all pool covers eventually wear out this one is going to give you the longest life.

Hint - always cover the rolled up material with a white screen. The bubbles are so efficient that the multilayered effect can build up such heat that the whole roll can fuse together. All these benefits are of great value but the fact is it only works when it’s on the pool and if it’s a real hassle to get on and off it tends to stay on the roller for the season. This is where an efficient easy to use roller makes all the difference. Hint - when pulling out the cover fold it over and make a bow like leading edge.

Daisy is Australia’s largest manufacturer of roller systems and pool covers and there is even a WinterKleen leaf covers to 'pack-away' your pool for winter and they all carry the Smart Approved WaterMark.

From the 1st September in Western Australia all new and renovated pools must by law have a cover. So the writing is on the wall for all to see the way we need to move in the future. In some states rebates up to $200 are available.
