Every year hundreds of new rose varieties arrive from distant shores to be trialled for suitability in Australian garden conditions. Many of these have been varieties nominated as the successors to old favourites who produce stunning blooms but suffer from diseases. These new forms are often disease resistant, have bigger, better brighter blooms that are often more fragrant than the original. The trouble is they rarely make it past trial stage and it is not because they fail to grow.

It is because we are set in our ways and not well informed of these new improved forms. After seeing some of these at their best in Adelaide a few years ago Neville and Trevor decided to write a glossy guide to these new forms and some of our all time old favourites.
