• Proteaflora is a wholesale nursery providing first quality Proteaceae to Australian nurseries, garden centres and cut flower growers, both in Australia and overseas.
• The late Pete Mathews founded Proteflora in 1974 after he saw the potential of Proteas as a major cut flower and nursery crop, capable of being developed in the same way other horticultural flowers had been. Until this time there had been little breeding and most flower picking was from the wild. Proteas were not well understood as a nursery crop.
• Proteaflora is now run by brothers David and Andrew Mathews and wives Ilse and Sue.
• Proteaflora has become the dominant Protea nursery in Australia. Proteaflora has won the national AGIA award for the third time in a row for 'Best Large Production Nursery in Australia.'
• Proteaflora plants have brilliant colours and beautiful flowers.
• Growing Proteas are easy. Ensure your Proteas have adequate drainage, are in a position with full sun and are grown in natural mulch. They are tough, don?t require much water and only need to be pruned once a year.
