Kim discloses tips on how to get the most out of the recycling bin.
Tips:
- Flatten and bundle cardboard boxes.
- Empty toilet rolls and pet food items are the most frequently found items in the waste bin, which could be recycled.
- Squash and bundle empty milk and juice cartons.
- Remove lids from jars and bottles, this makes work easier on sorting conveyors.
- Most drinking bottles in South Australia have a deposit, so keep them aside in a separate bin to take to recyclers later.
- Zero Waste SA is a South Australian state government organization.
- They promote waste management practices as well as play an important role in sustainability.
- They provide grants to local councils, the waste industry and businesses.
- Zero Waste SA also assists industry with the development of markets for recovered resources and recycled materials.
- They also support research into waste management practices and issues.
- Zero Waste SA is working towards meeting the target to ?reduce waste by 25% by 2014? in South Australia?s Strategic Plan.
