New Gardens
Episode: SA Easter Special
Date: 10th April 2009
Story: New Gardens
Presenter: Kim Syrus
Kim finds the best way to create a garden from scratch, after having built a new house.
Featured Courtyard example: Delfin development
- Over 1 million trees were planted throughout Delfin?s Golden Grove development along with over 30 Parks and Gardens and 40km of walking, hike and bike trials.
- Great developments around Adelaide have created facilities such as leisure trials and parks which help move your garden beyond its gate.
- A typical courtyard area, has a large paved centre and bordering garden, which is a good spot for sitting and relaxing.
- To give this a life, start with the fence, which needs covering.
- Soften walls by placing large pots with large plants in front of them. Place pots in position before filling with quality potting mix, then the plant.
- In the garden, height and colour is needed, such as standard Iceberg roses and low growing Perennial Statice to fill the gaps.
- Once plants are in, lay the drippers, once they?re pegged, hook it up.
- Two types of outside taps can be found in Delfin developments ? one for the mains water and one for recycled water which is ideal for the garden.
- Spread mulch over garden bed to reduce evaporation, cool plants and keep weeds down.
- A few finishing touches; funky umbrella, seat, chairs and a water feature.
