Garden Feature Woodbridge

Episode: Two
Date: 11th of April
Story: Garden Feature Woodbridge
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane and Lisa Passmore

Finalist: Mark Manolini
Category: Medium Size Gardens

When a Medium size garden has tricky angles often some of the best solutions occur with a selection of excellent plant options, organic use of materials, contrast and texture. Trevor and Lisa visit Mark?s garden to discover a treasure of inspirational and modern ideas.

Mark?s inspiration for the garden was the location; he wanted to keep the garden water wise and very contemporary by nature. Each corner has been planted out and designed in creating the end result of a garden that feels a lot bigger than what it is.

Lisa sees the garden feature?s clean lines, minimal plant palette and great use of foliage both for colour texture and year round interest.

Featured Plants

Winning combinations

    • Variegated Dianella (Dianella revoluta variegata), Agave (Agave attenuata) and Yucca (Yucca elephantipes). They are stunning as sculptural plants plus they are super hardy and survive on the barest minimum of water. Their low maintenance status coupled with no 'down time' plus no flower or leaf drop make them ideal poolside plants.
    • The Silver cushion bush (Leucophyta brownii) Adds a real element of surprise as its silver coral-like foliage peaks out from behind the striking plum tones of the Cordyline 'Red Fountain'.
    • Cordyline 'Red Fountain' Is an ideal landscape plant for colour (particularly in a shade or semi shade position). Its a new release form and grows to around 80cm high and wide remaining a fountain of plum/red foliage it does not develop an upright trunk the way other cordylines do.
    • Addition of pots in the garden bed adds height to the planting scheme and a sense of drama in the garden.
    • Ornamental Pear trees- (Pyrus cultivars) achieve vertical impact, giving height and a sense of enclosure to a small space.
