Story Title: Digging and Large Gardens
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
One of the most common questions we get asked about gardens has very little to do with plants but ?How to stop the dog from digging up the garden.? Trevor spoke with the experts from Better Pets and Gardens to find out how to stop this problem.
Better Pets and Gardens Tips and Facts
- Dogs dig and damage gardens for various reasons- because
- ?They are bored,
- They have pent up energy that they need to burn off,
- They are feeling ?separation anxiety? or
- They are a ?working dog? that isn?t worked.?
- Interactive toys keep dogs busy throughout the day. Choose a couple but keep alternating the toys the dog can play with so that they don?t get bored.
- Exercising a dog in the morning before you leave for work will help dogs burn off some energy and perhaps keep them a bit quieter throughout the day.?
- Intensive exercise for 10 to 15 minutes is all that is necessary for most dogs.
- Throw Sticks get your dog running. You get to walk at a leisurely pace and you don't even have to pick up a sloppy ball.
- Dog Frisbees (not the hard ones as they damage teeth), balls and even water toys get the dogs moving too.?
- If your dog is tricky to walk, Better Pets and Gardens has a number of different tethering options and harnesses that make it easier to walk the dog - less pulling for you and less stress on the dog?s chest or around their neck.
- Take your dog to your nearest store for a perfect harness fitting to prevent dogs from pulling excessively.

AGILITY
- Agility training helps release a dog?s energy constructively and lets them learn how to be under control and in high spirits at the same time. They can run around madly, have fun, burn off energy and still be under control. Better Pets and Gardens have quite a few options to help train dogs in agility including the tunnels, jumps, weave poles and hoops that are a lot of fun to teach dogs.?
