Mulching plays a critical role in Waterwise gardens. As now is the best time to be applying mulch to your garden, Trevor informs us of exactly how much mulch is needed for best results.

Tips and Facts

• Mulching is best done at this time of year, as the autumn rains will settle the mulch down and get it soaking into the soil.
• Applying mulch now will keep your weed problems to an absolute minimum, as it smothers weed seedlings.
• You need to apply a layer 100mm thick of mulch. By spring this will have compacted 50mm deep and the other 50mm will have been converted into valuable soil improver.
