Bearded Iris

Story: Bearded Iris
Episode: 9
Presenter: Bonnie-Marie Hibbs
Air Date: 24 April 2021

Bearded Iris makes for a showstopper in the garden, with their tall, large, ruffled flowers that come in an array of colours.

  • Bearded Iris grows best in a climate with hot, dry summers and cold, chilly winters.
  • They need at least 6-8 hours of sunlight in soil that has good drainage for them to produce flowers.
  • When planting Bearded Iris, make sure the rhizome isn’t too deep. It needs to be exposed to the sun, so make sure nothing is covering it or casting shade.
  • Bearded Iris can be planted in mass or borders, and they make great companion plants for roses.
  • Being a rhizome, they will multiply each year, giving you even more plants and flowers in the garden.
  • Garden Express has a special offer for viewers of The Garden Gurus. They can pick up a Bearded Iris collection of their choice for 20% off.
