If you want the best lawn in the street, you must have a diligent lawn mowing routine. It’s not just the cut with the mower that’s important, the edges need manicuring as well. Trevor shows us how to achieve the perfect lawn edge.
- Always do your lawn-edge trimming before you mow the lawn.
- The cuttings from trimming will be collected easily by your lawnmower catcher or mulched into the surface depending on what kind of lawn you have.
- For smaller lawns or even lawn alternatives, like dichondra, a lightweight, easy-to-handle grass trimmer is an ideal choice.
- For larger plots, a more powerful brush cutter is the tool to get, this will allow you to cover more ground quickly and tackle heavier growth.
- Your lawn will start growing fast in Spring, and it’s a great idea to mow up to twice a week.
- When the weather gets dry and warm, don’t cut the grass more than once a week as it can scalp it and expose causing patches.
- Adjust your grass trimmer to suit your height. You should stand up straight while trimming with your tool to prevent back pain.
- When trimming at the edge of the lawn, hold the grass trimmer at the right height over the ground and make smooth sweeping motions with it.
- Use sweeping motions when trimming and don’t let the mowing head touch the ground as this will cause it to wear very quickly.
- Different lawn types and seasons will affect mowing frequency.
- Put dried-out trimmer line in a bucket of water overnight to restore its strength.
