• Ground covers block sunlight, preventing weed germination and acting as a natural weed suppressant.
• Existing plants such as Australian native acacia (wattle), Aussie-bred succulent ‘Sunburn’, and Silver Carpet from South Africa are tough ground covers that resist weed invasion.
• Even Peruvian lilies can help by forming thick growth that crowds out weeds.
• These plants can easily be grown from cuttings — the plan is to propagate and spread them across the garden, aiming for a weed-free victory by next year.
