A well designed garden
Story: A well designed garden
Episode: 1
Presenter: Dan Foreman
Air Date: 22 Aug 2026
Dan takes us through some of the common challenges encountered in landscaping and demonstrates practical solutions to overcome them.
- Functionality is a key part of landscape design. The goal is to create a space that is not only visually appealing but also practical and usable for the client.
- A well-designed garden should maximise the available space and cater to the needs of the family using it.
- Monique’s backyard had a significant slope, which made it difficult to maximise the available space for the family to use.
- The existing layout limited both the functionality and usability of the garden.
- Shapecaper steel edging was used to create different levels and tiers within the garden beds.
- These tiers allowed us to make better use of the sloping space, creating areas for planting while also incorporating functional spaces for the family.
- By working with the existing slope rather than against it, the garden became more practical, usable and aesthetically pleasing.
