Michael Thompson

Title: Michael Thompson
Episode: 1 Hour WA Easter Special
Broadcast Date: 17th April
Presenter: Trevor

Michael Thompson is a wiz both on and off the television. When he isn’t hard at work at Channel Nine Perth, you might just find him out in his garden tending to his many beautiful plants. Trevor pays Michael a visit to see what he has going on in his yard right now.

  • Michael loves his viburnum hedges, they offer him privacy but also look beautiful and lush. They thrive in the cooler weather, and love being on the South side of Michael’s house, where they are awarded shade for most of the day
  • Michael also has a Tinus hedge, which is looking a bit sick, and dying in patches. A closer look at the underside of the leaves shows thrip damage, the telltale sign of the tiny bugs which scrape the surface of laves and petals, sucking sap, and leaving little for the plant to use. When the leaves are exposed to the sun, it causes them to burn much easier. The use of an insecticide such as Max Guard will sort these bugs out!
  • Grown from the off-cut of another tree, the Frangipani in Michael’s yard has weathered the hail storm which struck Perth in 2010, and is still looking great. The tree has white and yellow flowers, and it is the most fragrant and hardy of the Frangipanis. It is also the best suites species to the Perth climate and soils.
