Hedges in Tight Spaces

Story Title: Hedges in Tight Spaces
Episode: Four
Broadcast Date: 07th & 14th September 2013
Presenter: Chloe Thompson

Hedges have many uses in your garden. They can define a space, provide windbreaks, screen your neighbors or be used as a feature plant. This week Chloe shows you another way hedges can be used - in pots!

Another Way is the Potted Way

  • Hedges are a great plant to use in pots because they work well in tight spaces. They can be used for anything you're trying to hide, such as the kid's sandpit or that air-conditioning unit!
  • Chloe suggests for the correct distance between each plant follow the label; however, to create a hedge try spacing them one and a half times less than the distance recommended on the label
  • Having hedges planted so close together means they will fight for nutrients so it's important to dose them every month with a liquid fertiliser. PowerFeed is packed with all the essential nutrients your hedges will need to fill out into a lush and dense hedge. Try using the self watering pots from Décor which helps each plant to get a fair dose
  • Having the self-watering feature means they have a water well in the base. This retains the water that passes through the soil meaning the water can return to the plant, so no wasted water!
  • In a larger pot, try planting Fairy Mongolia, a perfect plant for hedging in pots. It can grow up to 2 metre's, produce lightly fragment flowers and its dark green foliage will quickly become dense hedge
  • The Décor Self-Watering range is available in Australia from your local Bunnings store
