Aquaponics system by Hydroponic Xpress

  • Aquaponics is the combination of aquaculture and hydroponics.
  • The water from the fish tank circulates through the grow beds, which are filled with expanded clay or aquaclay.
  • Nitrifying bacteria converts fish waste into plant available nutrients.
  • The water is then filtered by the plants such as tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce and other green leafy vegetables, returning by gravity or pump back to the fish tank, giving the fish clean water to live in.
  • Reduced water use & chemical use & reduces pesticide use when set up in a controlled environment.
  • Stops backbreaking work of digging the soil and weeding.
  • Can produce fish and plants all year round.
  • Aquaponics uses only about 10% of the water required for traditional gardening or aquaculture.

Fertilisers provided: Stocktech Australia’s Shades of Green range

Shades of Green fertilisers deliver plants a balanced charge of energy and nutrition, along with an environmentally responsible solution to the water and climate issues of our time.

These fertilisers provide a comprehensive array of minerals to plants and contain unique ingredients that enhance soil microbial life.

The Shades of Green range of products have an outstanding ability to stimulate the development of functional root mass, thus improving soil and plant health by increasing organic matter in the soil profile.

The future of sustainability in gardening and farming depends on rebuilding carbon by increasing the content of organic matter in the soil.

This not only reduces our carbon footprint, but also enables water to be used more efficiently.

Rivers must be protected by preventing the leaching of fertiliser away from the soil profile.
