Featured Plant: Birds of Paradise (Sterlitzia reginae)
- A genus of approximately 5 species that are found it habitats ranging from riverbanks to open glades in the bush of South Africa
- These long stemmed evergreen perennials have large, long stalked mostly oblong to lance shaped leaves with woody bases forming a trunk that may reach 10 meters tall
- The exotic feature of this plant is a leaf axils and consists of usually horizontal waxy, stiff, boat shaped spathes from the top of which crest like flowers often in contrasting colours emerge to create a bird like beak and head, from which its name derives
- Grow in fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun or partial shade with shelter from strong winds

- This is a genus of approximately 40 species of rossete forming or woody shaped perennials, evergreen shrubs and erect, eventually spreading, evergreen trees from hot , dry places such as deserts, sand dunes and plains in North America and Central America and the West Indies
- This particular species is a large upright shrub or small tree with several to many sparsely branched trunks arising near ground level. Narrowly lance shaped, light to mid-green leaves which are 60cm to 100m long and are stiffly leathery with toothed margins
- Mature plants bear hemispherical, white to cream flowers 3-4cm long and flower from summer to autumn
Featured Plant: Gevillea ‘Moonlight’ (Grevillea ‘Moonlight’ (G banksii x G whiteana))
- A genus of at least 250 species of evergreen shrubs and trees, most native to Australia , a few native to Indonesia, New Guinea and New Caledonia, found in the woodland, rainforest and more open habitats
- This particular species is a large, open strongly branched shrub or small tree, sometimes prostrate and mat-forming. Ovate, pinnate leaves, 15cm to 25cm long, with long narrow lobes are deep green above , silky haired or rust red hairy beneath
- Bares red, pink and creamy white flowers in erect cylindrical racemes, 8cm to 18cm long, mostly from late winter to spring but also at other times
- Grow in acidic to neutral soil, moderately fertile soil in full sun can be moderately frost hardy
