Date: 28th November 2010
Presenter: Neville Passmore
Over the years we've all had to reassess garden designs and it's become more important then ever with current water restrictions. Inspire yourself with a waterwise garden hero for some inspiring ideas.
Neville's Tips and Facts
- A well established garden can help reduce water requirements as roots of many of the plants will find their moisture well below the surface.
- A mass planted garden without any bare soil means it can be naturally mulched and cool the root zones which encourage plant growth, whilst holding moisture.
- Composting and worm farming means organic waste from the kitchen and garden doesn't leave the property, but is recycled into the garden enriching the soil and improving its water retentive properties.
- A key to the success to ensure your garden is getting the right amount of water is by using a bore. Bores are encouraged in Perth's suburbs where there are good quality underground supplies.
