Winter Veggies
Story Title: Winter Veggies
Episode 2: WA's Great Gardens
Date: 23 May
Presenter: Neville Passmore
The rain we receive in autumn gives us a great reason to plant new vegetables or any tree shrub, perennial or bulb.
Beneficial bacteria facts
- One of the least recognised elements of soil is what we call microbes or bacteria.
- One of the real breakthroughs in gardening is the recognition of the work these little fellas do and how to help them.
- Bacteria convert fertilisers into food for plants and help them absorb this nutrient through the roots.
- They also convert dead plant material into compost, another form of food for plants. This is just the beginning of their invaluable work that makes growth possible.
- Neville uses Bactivate as a key to unlocking your soils potential.
- Bactivate is a living micro organism that converts carbon into useable plant food, so you can do your bit in your backyard to reduce carbon.
- This soil improver assists in the reduction of harmful chemicals in the soil. It stores certain heavy metals inside their body cavity and they lock it away and drive it into the lower sub soils by readjusting the capillary action of the soil structure.
- Bactivate creates a natural chemical free environment in your garden that is safe for your children to play in.
- The use of pesticides and chemicals can kill all the good bacteria in your soils, but you can put good bacteria in your soil and balance the biological activity for healthy soils.
- What is Bactivate
- Tip: use a handful to the sq meter or 30g – 60g per plant when planting depending on soil type (sandy or clay soils require more) and remember the more the merrier to speed up the Microbial activity.
- How to apply Bactivate
Bactivate available from Dawson's Garden World, Wandilla Nursery, All Palms & Gardens and all good nurseries.
