Western Australian Soil Improvement
Title: Western Australian Soil Improvement
Episode: 1 Hour WA Easter Special
Broadcast Date: 17th April
Presenter: Chris
If it isn’t bad enough that we have just come off the back of a long and brutal summer where we went for over 100 days without rain, we also have to face up to the fact that, rain or otherwise, we have really bad soils. How bad? Well the United Nations declared our humble WA sands to be the worst in the world. Don’t let this listing get you down though; check out Chris’ tips for turning sand into soil!!
- This is how to turn bad sand into amazing soil: We take our good old gutless sand and mix in our clay mixture, depending on how bad your sand is and what product you use you will need anywhere from 5 to 12 kg per square meter.
- Now we add a beautiful, rich dark compost or soil improver that will help bring that soil to life. Mix this all together and you will see the difference almost immediately.
- Next, turn this beautiful mixture into the top 20-30cm of your garden because that is where all the feeder roots of your plants are found in your soil
- Just remember to add soil amendments, your compost or soil improver, perhaps some wetting agent, thoroughly mix it in and you have made a huge step to creating a truly great garden.
