Herb Shopping

Story Title: Herb Shopping
Episode 9: WA's Great Gardens
Date: 5 December 2010
Presenter:
Neville Passsmore

Just like at the supermarket, shopping alphabetically for herbs will guarantee you don't miss anything when planting your herb garden.

Neville's Tips and Facts

  • There is always something new to add to the garden and the way herbs are laid out alphabetically makes it easy to find the ones you want as well as checking out the new and exotic varieties.
  • Among the most popular herbs right now is coriander, as the temperatures rise they tend to run up to flower quickly so pick leaves every few days or grow them in the kitchen ready to pluck and pop into your Asian dishes.
  • Being tropical Basil loves the warmer seasons and is my favourite herb for tomato-based dishes including bruschetta.
  • There is always something different to grow; right now you can try Chia the amazing Aztec super food. You eat the seeds, which have more antioxidants the blueberries more Omega three than fish, five times more Calcium than milk and that's just the beginning.
