One of the special delights of Brisbane is the Roma Street Gardens right in the centre of the city.
Tips and Facts
- The Parkland is set over 16 hectares of green space and is the largest urban subtropical garden in the world.
- Officially opened on 6 April, 2001 by the then Premier of Queensland.
- The Parkland has been designed so that all storm water flows down into the lake, maximising rain water capture in the Parkland.
- Irrigation in the Parkland has been converted to the use of lake water only, thus conserving town water.
- Mulch is regularly applied to the Parkland gardens and tree surrounds; reducing weeds, in turn reducing the use of labour and chemicals to control weeds.
- All grass clippings, spent annuals from garden beds, material left over after clipping, pruning and hedging are composted.
