Wes Fleming has been hard at work doing something he loves- finding, trialing and introducing great new cultivars to the Australian market. This year he is releasing a new Nyssa sylvatica,and two new Liquidambar cultivars. Tune in to find out what makes them so exciting.
- Nyssa – commonly known as Black Gum or Tupelo - are a beautiful tree but they are quite rare. With the introduction of a faster growing variety called ‘Forum’, however, they are being produced in more volume.
- This Nyssa has wowed overseas growers – and with stunning autumn colour – it’s sure to be a hit in Australia too.
- It is highly tolerant of wet and salty soil conditions, which means it has the potential to be grown in coastal and alkaline areas.
- It will be perfect for avenue planting, street trees, deciduous hedging and simply as a feature tree.
- Forum will grow to about 10 meters at maturity with a spread of about 5m – making it a perfect medium-to-large tree.
- Flemings have also introduced a range of new Liquidambar – Rotundiloba, Cherokee and Worplesdon Worplesdon is a large variety growing to about 12m at maturity with unusual, deeply cut, foliage that colours well during late autumn.
