Featured Plant: ?Vireya Rhododendron (Rhododendron vireya spp)?
- Rhododendron originates in Europe, Asia, Australasia and North America, particularly SW China, Burma, Tibet, North India and New Guinea
- Do not survive in frost
- Flower continuously throughout the year, varieties in colour are pure and can vary from white through pinks, reds, oranges and yellows.
- Some vireyas grow as shrubs, others as epiphytes on the trunks of trees.
- An evergreen that thrives in well drained, slightly acidic soil
- Usually have very long tubular flowers, which open out at the end. The opening in this flower is however much narrower than many others, some of which can be up to 150mm across.
