Japanese Gardens

Episode: Two
Date: 15th March 2008
Presenter: Nigel Ruck
Story Title: Japanese Gardens

One of the most simplistic and tranquil types of garden is an Asian garden. Focusing on the natural elements of nature such as rocks, greenery, water and pebbles it is not hard to understand why they are becoming increasingly popular.

Japanese gardens are unique using a combination of particular elements such as manicured shrubs, lanterns, bamboo structures and fountains to replicate scenic mountains and riversides. Another type of Asian garden featured is the Balinese garden. Equally as rich in design as the Japanese garden, its central focus is the lush and tropical plants that are generally very green, big leaves and fragrant.

What is unique to the Balinese garden is the combination of thatched roofs, statues and incense.
