Tips and Facts
- Heat stressed plants are struggling because they cant get moisture from roots to their leaves quick enough. When that happens the leaves collapse and droop. One-way to stop this occurring is to use an anti-transparent spray like drought breaker.
- You can and should apply a wetting agent now, as a lot of garden soil will become water repellent. Soak it now and wash the surfactant in thoroughly, you need to see bubbles forming on the soils surface to be sure it's working.
- In sandy soils add some clay into the soil, this thickens the soil up holding moisture and nutrients longer around the roots.
- Adding a thick layer of chunky mulch will slow water evaporating from the soils surface. It acts much like a sunshade cooling the soil and reducing water loss from the plants roots, which predominantly sit on the soils surface.
