Story: Rock Gardens

Trevor discovers three plants which can withstand the heat, and will grow with beauty and grace in your garden.
Featured Plants
Tanika, Lomandra longifolia ?LM300?
- Is an improved compact form of Lomandra longifolia. Has attractive deep green foliage with yellow flowers in spring.
- Grows well in full sun and moderate to heavy shaded areas.
- Survives off natural rainfall in most areas of Australia, however for desert inland areas occasional watering may be necessary.
- In raised or flat areas, does well in sand to clay soils. In depressed areas like gullies, better in free draining soils.
- Grows well in hot, dry and humid areas as well as heavy frost and cold areas.
- To care: water as required for the first 8 to 13 weeks. Do not excessively irrigate making the soil wet for prolonged periods as this is harmful for the plant. Trimming is rarely required, as is fertilizer.
Cassa Blue, Dianella caerulea ?DBB03?
- Has gorgeous blue foliage, with blue flowers in the spring and berries during the summer.
- Foliage grows approximately 50cm in height, with an approximate 40cm spread.
- Great for contrasting, also low in water requirements.
- Tolerates a wide range of soils and climatic conditions. Suited to full sun, as well as partially shaded areas.
- Has cold, heat, frost and drought tolerance.
- To care: trim older leaves annually as required. Plant in a well mulched garden; apply a slow release fertilizer once a year in spring.
Little Jess, Dianella caerulea ?DCMP01?
- Has glossy emerald green foliage.
- Grows approximately 40cm in height, with tall blue-purple flowers in spring, and purple berries in summer.
- Compact ornamental plant.
- Tolerates a wide range of soils and climates. Suited to full sun and shady areas.
- To care: plant in a well mulched garden, fertilize with slow release once a year in spring. Trim every 8 years if required.
