Getting water into your garden is very important but keeping the moisture in the garden bed is absolutely critical if you want to have a beautiful garden. One of the most effective ways to do it is to mulch quite heavily. You can use all sorts of mulches but straw is a very effective mulch as it does all sorts of things such as smothering weeds and cools the soil down. This is important because the plants roots tend to grow across the surface of the soil and it also holds moisture in. This means on hot dry days your plants are going to look so much better.

Tip: The application of a wetting agent before a garden bed is mulched will ensure the water soaks into the soil and not run off the surface.
