Presenter: Dean Boone
Episode: Easter Special 8/4/07

A water tanks can help take the pressure off our damns but what sort of plants can you plant in your garden to make the most out of the water you collect?

Mount Annan Botanical Gardens
have developed what they are calling “The Big Ideas Garden” to give gardeners some big ideas.

The garden is full of information about all the key topics like the importance of mulching, collection of rainwater and sub surface and drip irrigation. Dean takes a look at their plant selections which are of course, perfectly waterwise.

Botanic gardens are well known for displaying some of the most interesting and unusual plant material that nature has to offer. Every plant on display in the garden is available from your local garden centre as the point of these big ideas is to give you real life examples of what you can put into place in your own home, in your own garden.

Mount Annan Botanical Gardens
has many well known plants and cultivars. One of Dean’s favourites is Coastal Rosemary (Westringia fruticosa). It is absolutely perfect for formal or informal hedging.

Flower colour and foliage form are also well showcased and little signs around the place remind us that by grouping waterwise together, we reduce our maintenance and watering needs.

Botanic Gardens are full of useful information and Dean thinks that Mount Annan is certainly worth a look to see that waterwise gardening is achievable. The wealth of information at Mount Annan will help to get you started.
