Day 7 - Busan Jagalchi Fish Market

Day 7 - June 2007

Busan Jagalchi Fish Market

Jagalchi Fish Market is the largest in South Korea and is famous for its fresh fish. Its name originates from the neighboring village which holds a distinctly unique accent. It is worth while getting there early in the morning to watch the unloading of the fresh produce from fishing boats and to watch the retailers haggle for the best deals.

The market runs right next to Busan Harbor and is split into two sections, one for fresh seafood and the other for dried seafood. As the crowd builds so does the noise level, and if you ever needed to catch the attention of one of the store vendors, who are predominately female, just gently call out ‘a-jum-ma’, and service will be heading your way.

Every year in October the Jagalchi Cultural Tourism Festival is held, and there is no better place in Korea then here to try fresh even raw seafood.
