Vadoulis Garden Centre
Episode: #18 18/8/07
Presenter: Kim Syrus
Located in the township of Gawler is one of Australia’s most awarded Garden Centres. Recently voted the Plants Plus National Store of the Year, the Vadoulis Garden Centre well deserves this prestigious award; along with a swag of others which they have achieved over the years. Once you step inside, you will understand why this garden centre stands out from the rest
Beyond the huge range of annuals, shrubs, trees and all things gardening, there is plenty here to make indoor and outdoor living a wonderfully comfortable experience. The newly opened pavilion is packed with a great range lounges, barbeques and of course outdoor settings.
Kim has had her eye on a beauty. A stylish all steel setting that will not only take the hard knocks but best of all it is Australian made, and how about the space age Chimenea, it is spectacular but you can’t be sure if it has just landed or is about to take off.
The giftware area is a great place to browse and buy. It is absolutely jam packed with superb quality and unique items. A well kept secret.
This is a great place to get advice on plants. There are always plenty of questions about good reliable screening plants; well here are the Vadoulis top 3 performers. The coppery toned ‘Acmena Állyn Magic’, the glossy green Murraya (Murraya paniculate) and the red tipped Photinia (Photinia robusta).
The great thing about a good garden centre is that you are likely to find some real gems, like the Queensland Bottle Tree (Brachychiton rupestris). This tree is very slow growing, taking up to 15 years before the slender trunk swells into a bottle shape. Then another 50 to 60 years to develop a 2 metre diameter!
There is also another treat, not for your garden, for yourself. The café is exceptional - great location, great food and of course great coffee. Here is a place for both the gardener and non-gardener to sit, relax and recharge.
Take some time out to visit the award winning Vadoulis Garden Centre, opposite the racecourse at Gawler, it is only a short drive from Adelaide and it is guaranteed, well worth the trip.
Do not forget to pick up your copy of the latest Garden Gurus newspaper. Available now from your local mitre 10 Garden Centre and all good garden centres.
