Essendon Garden Centre
Episode: #18 18/8/07
Presenter: Melissa King
Essendon Garden Centre really is an institution in this suburb. It has been inspiring gardeners to create magic in their own back yards. Great garden centres take the lead when it comes tom the latest trends, super tough plants are high on the agenda at the moment. Their display garden was put together by their award wining landscape designer Steven Vella his top tough picks include the silver leaf cushion bush, the quaintly named Knobby Rush, and the beautiful people are planting the Grevillea ‘Aussie Crawl’ this season.
One you have spruced up the out doors, it is time to head indoors to the on site florist. It does not matter what season it is, there is nothing like a fresh cut bunch of flowers to brighten up and bring a bit of fragrance to the inside of the house. Boys you know how much us girls like to be surprised by a lovely bunch of roses, and not one of those from the service station!
Once you have picked out the perfect bunch wander through the home wares and gift area, there you will find gifts inspired by the garden like lavender soap, frangipani bath products, and exotic vases drawn from nature.
There is a lot to be said for mass planting, from a design point of view it creates a greater visual impact and it is often a lot lower maintenance approach to planting.
So Essendon Garden Centre rewards gardeners for thinking big, that means you will pay less for bulk orders.
You will find a wonderful balance of dry hardy succulents’ lush water garden favourites, patio and indoor plants alongside traditional indoor shrubs and hedges. Plus lots of ideas for pop out instant colour perfect for pots and hanging basket.
Spending an afternoon at the centre couldn’t end without a visit to the coffee shop. It will be time to replenish the carbohydrates. There is a great range of snacks, meals, cakes and sponges. There is nothing like a nice big pot of soup to warm up the bones on a cold winter day.
The coffee is great too!
