Landscaped Garden of the Week

Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
Episode: 20 (8 September 2007)

The Garden Gurus are constantly driving around the suburbs looking for beautiful gardens to film in and there are some stunners. If you see a Honda turn into your drive way be gentle, it could be one of the Gurus looking to use your garden for our next shoot.

We are lucky enough to get invited into some beautiful gardens designed by some of Australia’s most talented designers. The outdoor entertainment garden featured in the show was designed by Martin Cuthbert Landscapes.

The outdoor entertaining area looks over the pool and spa which is well lit and looks incredible at night. The pool is surrounded by tropical plants and whilst the golden cane palm is still establishing it is suffering a bit from the winter chills. A trip of the dead leaves is all it needs now to have it growing in spring time.

An easy way to get old leaves off a tree, shrub or palm which is isolated by a pool is to use an extendable pruner. They stretch over 5 metres providing easy access from the ground to the trees above. The handle slides back and the cutting action is smooth and easy. The extendable pruner is just another good idea from the clever people at Fiskars.

The garden has an outstanding entertaining area; there is a stunning pool and a magnificent water wall as a back drop but when you walk out of the pool you walk into a beautiful timber lined pavilion. With a stainless steel outdoor kitchen, storage, BBQ, gas-fired pizza oven, fridge, it has everything. It has got to be the absolute luxury in outdoor living.

The garden is cleverly design to look stylish, modern, yet still remain low maintenance. The beds are cleverly constructed and utilize plants that are easy to care for and grow in a contained shape. It would require practically no maintenance at all.

If you are not sure whether or not you should employ a landscape designer; whether it will be value for money. It is worth every cent you spend. They will leave you with something very special.

If you want more ideas on designs, you can read one of those terrific landscape books; there is a great new book out about resort style living, by Dean Herald. It is just what the featured properly has achieved and it is worth a read.
