3 of the Best Roses
Presenter: Sue McDougall
Episode: 23 (6th October 2007)
Gardeners have long realised that roses are perfect for hot sunny spots because even on limited watering they perform brilliantly. Dawson’s Garden World has been growing roses for Perth gardeners for over 100 years and they have picked three of their favourites for Perth conditions.
Angel Face rose was bred in 1968 and is becoming more popular every year. It’s a floribunda, but it’s a good cutting variety, as it sometimes sends up single flowers. The deep mauve flowers are strongly perfumed and it is ideal for warm climates. The more sun it’s grown in, the better the flower colour.
Double Delight is the most fragrant rose Dawson’s grow. Cream petals are edged red and as they age the colour intensifies. Every garden needs at least one, ideally you should plant a few so you can enjoy the perfume for months.
Tournament of Roses is a tall Hybrid Tea variety and great for cutting. It carries very attractive two toned flower with pink and subtle copper shades.
