The Latest Trends in Pots
Presenter: Melissa King
Episode: 26 (3rd November 2007)
After several seasons of high gloss and loud colours there is a new natural wave in pot fashion. The new spring collection is all about ‘earthy’ colors, textures and nature inspired designs and the Gucci of the pot design world is Northcote Pottery.
Beyond the rainbow of colours in glazed pots there’s a superb range of organic shades in un-glazed pottery now in vogue.
The first model is terraFIRMA which is a unique coloured clay product that is destined to be the season's hottest accessory. It comes in a whole range of rich outback hues, in the latest Aussie designs.
Colour is blended through the clay so you get a natural look and a lovely textured finish. Combined with warm tones such as Cappuccino, Graphite and Off White, the range is an ideal companion to rendered homes, courtyards and balconies. The organic look also makes them an ideal playmate to gorgeous Australian plants.
But not all fashion is just for looks, the collection is practical too. Nothing says rustic beauty quite like terracotta, but Northcote’s cottaSEAL has a modern twist, water saving talents. You get the traditional look of terracotta, without your plants drying out.
The pots are pre-treated with a water resistant sealant designed to reduce absorption of moisture from the soil into the pot itself. They’re handmade and they keep their new look longer because of they way they have been fired. cottaSEAL pots look superb in Mediterranean style gardens, partnered with Rosemary, Lavender or dry loving succulents.
For something dark and exotic try the Tribal Collection, made to look old and rustic. This range is perfect for creating an old, rustic look or nestled in a lush, tropical setting. Some of the designs were originally used in Vietnam for storing water, and still are today. The pots are wood-fired at an extreme 1200 degrees and they look just as hot. The rough, textured finish is achieved by sandblasting each pot with up to 10kg of sand.
So there you have it, this season’s hottest pot collection unveiled and they’re all exclusive to Northcote Pottery. Ask for the new ranges of pottery by now.
