Well there is no doubt we are going to be in for a long hot summer, we have been experiencing record droughts and water restrictions and are well aware by now the need to be waterwise in the garden. But it is not all doom and gloom, far from it, you can still have a wonderful garden there are just a few things you have got to get right first.

What is really important and to group all the plants together depending on their water needs and they could involve some transplanting. When you are transplanting remember to avoid really hot days and it is a really great idea to use a product like Yates Drought Shield because it acts like a sun cream, reduces transpiration and therefore water loss it is also great to use on all your plants if you know there are some really hot days ahead.

Another great product to use is a Yates soil wetting agent, Soil Saturator. These are fantastic for getting water deep into the soil; they also help condition the soil, and it has got seaweed and nutrients in it to help promote healthy plants. You can use it on the garden, in your pots and you can also use it on the lawn.

A fantastic product you can use are Yates water storage crystals, which can store up to five hundred times their own weight in water, you only need a few so they are really cost effective, all you need is about one teaspoon for a 400 ml pot, and pots is where they are really effective because potting mixes dry really quickly. Before you put the plant in the pot really mix through thoroughly the crystals that way they will make water available to the roots, they will improve drainage and aeration.

Water storing Crystals work really well in a garden situation too. There are a few ways you can use them; if you are planting out new plants you can mix them through the soil, but for existing plants it is good to mix them up in a bucket of water so that they expand and maybe add some plant food or fish emulsion, and then the idea is to get them right down into the root zone as far as you can, so you should dig into the soil a bit and then slowly add the crystals from the bucket. Your plants will love you for it!

Last but not least don’t forget you have to keep you plants healthy and Yates Dynamic Lifter is an excellent organic fertilizer that doesn’t have to be watered in immediately after use, therefore saving more water.
