Episode: # 27 01/12/07
Presenter: Neville Passmore

Setting up a water efficient irrigation system does not have to be complicated or cost a bomb if you are smart. These “Twista” Stream, Spray and Drip emitters from Holman Industries are cleverly designed to work efficiently in garden beds or even individual pots.

You can feed them in from a main line that can come straight from your tap. Spaghetti tubing delivers the water direct to the “Twista” emitter either as an individual or in a sort of daisy chain where one leads into another.

The stake is rigid and robust and has a built-in punch at the base that allows you to connect the spaghetti tube straight into the main line, so you don’t need a separate tool. The “H” profile of the stake means it has great stability in the soil even sand.

A number of different emitters are available to spray drip, or dribble water direct to your plants. There is even a range of purple tops suitable for grey water reticulation into your garden.

Adjustments to the volume can be made easily by simply clicking the dial and with 20 positions it is easy to set the exact volume and profile you are looking for. Each emitter can be individually dialled up to deliver the exact amount of water that’s appropriate for the target plant or bed.

Spikes come in two sizes to give you an extra hold and height over other plants in the case of the 160 mm ones or in the case of the standard short stakes these can be used in line to link a number of emitters and so cover a row of pots for example

Each of these components is as cheap as chips but give you exact control, a pretty good way to setting up your first irrigation system.
