Warm colours add excitement to a garden and if you have ever planted red in your garden you would have noticed how bright green the foliage surrounding the plant is. This is the reason why the traditional Christmas colours of red and green always look fantastic. Warm colours also make a garden feel closer and cosier.

Cool colours mass planted appear more distant and give the feeling of space which is perfect for walled gardens or courtyards. Cool colours are perfect for planting in very hot spots and are ideal for summer.

Instant colour, or potted colour as it is sometimes referred to, are all available at Mazegga’s Mitre 10 at Kelmscott which is bursting full of last minute gardening inspiration. Adding colour to the garden by way of large pots is one of the easiest ways to make a garden look instantly loved. Mazegga’s have a huge range of pots and the locals affectionally refer to the pot area as the pot wall.

Stunning affects can also be created by growing veggies in pots. If you think the only good flower is a cauliflower then kitchen gardens in pots is for you. You can grow plants like capsicum, beetroot, celery, chillies and repeat harvest lettuce in pots.

Gardening in pots is rewarding and you will have the best results for your pots if you use a premium potting mix. Don’t add any manures or soil improvers to your pots, save these for planting in your soil. Such products are essential in new gardens but they will pack down in a pot leaving no air spaces for the plants to grow effectively.

It’s hard not to get tempted by all the gorgeous plants at Mazzega’s and you should have no problem establishing them at this time of year if you select waterwise varieties. Australian plants have adapted and thrived in our hot, dry conditions which helps to make your job in the garden very easy over the coming months.
