Neville visits the ATI Trial Garden in Victoria where he takes look at the process of trialing new plants from all around the world so that they are ready for Australian gardeners.

Renga Renga Lily (Athropodiumcirratum) 

  • A tufted evergreen perennial with nodding star shaped white flowers
  • In frost prone areas it needs to be kept in a conservatory or greenhouse
  • New growth is particularly vulnerable to slugs.
  • Grow in a fertile, well drained gritty soil in full sun in particular at the base of a sunny wall in frost prone areas.

Red Fountain Cordyline (Cordyline, Hybrid Cultivar, ‘Red Fountain’)

  • Basal branching, this cordyline never grows more than 90 to 100 cm high
  • When mature, Red Fountain will spread to 120 cm
  • Prefers full sun
  • Tough enough to survive moderate frost, but also preforms in partial shade
  • In spring and summer, produces pale lilac flowers with light Jasmine-like fragrance
  • Tolerates of a range of soils, though performs best in a well worked soil containing organic matter
  • Low to moderate water needs
  • Fertilise in Spring with a controlled release fertiliser
  • Not susceptible to any diseases or pests
  • Remove old foliage as required – very low maintenance
  • Remove dead flower stems
