Saving water in the garden has never been easier, with local Waterwise specialists recommended by the Water Corporation. Trevor visits a waterwise garden centre that with staff who are trained in establishing waterwise gardens, plant selection, watering zones and so much more.

Waterwise Garden Centres

• The objective is to positively influence consumption towards more water efficient garden designs, plants, mulches, soil wetting agents and associated products.

• The Waterwise Garden Centre program was launched in September 2003 in conjunction with the Nursery and Garden Industry of WA. Sustainable Gardening Australia came on board in 2006.

• Every Garden Centre endorsed by the Corporation must meet the requirements of the WWGC program criteria, including training of staff in the latest Waterwise techniques. The training is organised by the Water Corporation and facilitated by local gardening experts. Staff are awarded a badge to help you clearly identify who is qualified to assist.

• Another way is have your garden looked at by a Waterwise assessor. These people have been trained to look out for ways to reduce water consumption and can provide valuable advice.
• There are 35 across WA and their details can be found on the Water Corporation web site.
• Experts will advise you get everything you need in order to establish plants, so that by spring they have developed root systems and are less likely to stress on warm days.
• Experts will advise you to ensure that the rains we get soak deep into the soil. This can be done by soaking the soil with a wetting agent.
