Did you know?
- People that carry weight around the abdomen have a higher risk of heart disease to those that carry weight around the hips.
- Black olives are easier to digest and have higher vitamin and antioxidant content than green olives. However, only black olives are edible in their natural state; green olives need to be washed repeatedly first.
- Australians use the most of olive oil outside the Mediterranean region.
- Oil makes up around 15-16% of an olive.
- Left over olive can be used as compost for the garden.
- Olives are extremely long lived trees and can be productive for hundreds of years.
- There are essentially two types of olives: oil type and table type, although all olives produce oil to some degree.
- Olives can easily be pickled and spiced at home.
