Growing Aussie Natives
- Autumn is the best time to grow plants, as the soil is still warm and there is a lot of dew or evening condensation, which provides plants with essential moisture.
- With cooler conditions most natives will continue to establish roots, leaving them in a better place to survive the hot summer month.
- Natives provide excellent food in the way of nectar and seeds for the birds.
- Make sure that you plant your plants into a free draining organic soil mixture.
- The Banksia produces stunning flowers. For colour contrast, plant species such as the Eremophila, or The Emu Bush.
- One way to save money is by planting out tube stock. They are cheap and believe it or not, most plants take off far better if grown from tubes than from large pots.
- It is a good idea to regularly feed your natives with a controlled release plant food, and don?t be scared to trim them regularly.
