Rose Transplanting
Story Title: Rose Transplanting
Episode: One
Broadcast Date: 15th September 2012
Presenter: Trevor Cochrane
It turns out even Garden Gurus make mistakes. When Trevor Cochrane planted his roses a few years ago, he didn't count on the surrounding trees growing so tall they've blocked the sunlight, so now its time to transplant.
Rose transplanting
- The ideal time to transplant roses is in winter when the bush is dormant, however early spring is still acceptable when using a few tricks.
- Ensure you prune the plant back hard, as roses can survive even after having 75 per cent of green growth removed.
- Roses have shallow roots, so to avoid damaging the roots, cut a wide shallow arch around the plant and gently pull out of the ground.
- Immerse the plant into a large tub of water with double the recommended dose of Seasol for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Once the rose has been transplanted, water with another dose of Seasol to minimise transplant shock.
